Bryan Berg has launched an attempt to break his own Guinness World Record for the largest house of freestanding playing cards at The Venetian Macao, the world’s largest resort-hotel.

The attempt to build a replica of The Venetian Macao, The Plaza Macao, and Sands Macao buildings will use more than 190,000 cards and will take 44 days to complete.

On both sides of the border, large areas of the mountains are designated national parks, and these together constitute a cross-border biosphere reserve under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program. The River Elbe rises within the Krkonoše. The range has a number of major ski resorts, and is a popular destination for tourists engaging in downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, cycling and other activities.

Indigenous Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11,000 years. The region was bypassed during the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the early 1800s. Aside from visits by mountain men during the early to mid-1800s, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. The U.S. Army was commissioned to oversee the park just after its establishment. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than 1,000 archaeological sites.

Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468 square miles, comprising lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest super-volcano on the continent. The caldera is considered an active volcano; it has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years. Half of the world’s geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone. The park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining, nearly intact ecosystem in the Earth’s northern temperate zone.

Six men in drag — including pearls, wigs and feather boas — shed their heels for the 50m Pink Stiletto Queen race in front of several thousand fans in the grandstand.

The race day, held in conjunction with the Australian Jockey Club, had the support of the country’s leading horse trainer, Gai Waterhouse. She said before the event: “I’m delighted to be ‘coming out’ at the Pink Stiletto race day and joining the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation in what will be the world’s first gay race day.”

Organisers said that they had raised more than A$30,000 (£17,500) for the foundation, which provides practical, emotional and financial support for people living with HIV/Aids.

In 1979, Denmark granted home rule to Greenland, with a relationship known in Danish as Rigsfællesskabet, and in 2008 Greenland voted to transfer more competencies to the local government. This became effective the following year, with the Danish royal government remaining in charge only of foreign affairs, security and financial policy, and providing a subsidy of DKK 3.4 billion ($633m), or approximately US$11,300 per Greenlander, annually.

Greenland is, by area, the world’s largest island that is not a continent.
